Music For Your Eyes
Music For Your Eyes (2022 – present) is an ongoing series of music-inspired ink drawings on paper. The works in this series offer my interpretations of how music sounds and feels to me in real-time. Highlighted genres such as jazz, blues, classical, rock and folk mark these works while the statements associated with each piece offer to the viewer insight into my intentions. As a result, the work captures what is ephemeral in nature and depicts music, movement and emotion as one. Apart from highlighting the music, the objective is to emphasize---through personal experience---the importance of showing up and being present. Every day is new and different.
Steeped in abstraction, the gestural lines represent the continuous movement of a composition, while the interwoven instruments, shapes, and textures are arranged as parts of a greater tapestry. Some images draw on a particular instrument or song while others are an interpretation of an entire album or genre. The color combination is used to reflect the power and peace in sound and the quotes to demonstrate the positive transformation that comes with each experience. Overall, the series invites the viewer to reflect on their relationship with music and to consider whether some aspects of our lives could be infused with a little more of it.
