This colorful, watercolor painting of a fox hunting was inspired by a fortunate trail run sighting. Chasing first light, I happened to glimpse this exact scene of a red fox hunting. Glimpses of bright light through the trees, all I could make out was the fox and a few bits of something falling off her paws. The early bird may get the worm but the first mouse gets the pounce!
 
Seen hunting here, this iconic jump is known as “mousing”. It is hypothesized that foxes use the Earth’s magnetic field to hunt. They most often jump and are successful when facing in a northeast direction.

As a symbol, from spirit guide to the trickster, foxes permeate legends and mythologies across the globe. They’re attributes include adaptability, beauty, intelligence, curiosity, playfulness, and independence. 
 
The original watercolor painting was created on 140 lb watercolor paper (11" x 15" | 28 cm x 38 cm). Hand-painted in 2019 by Sarah Skiold-Hanlin.
