This black and white, drawing of a silhouetted bass jumping out of the water after a mayfly was formed using a geometric foundation of vesica pisces using techniques like stippling, hatching, and detailed line work. Bass are sturdy, powerful fish that can be found all over the world from freshwater to the open ocean. Prized by fisherman for their size and strength, bass play an important ecological role as predators. They eat prey like insects, birds, fish, crustaceans, frogs, and worms, and can live the lifespan of a human. Though widely distributed their biggest threats are habitat loss and fishing. As a symbol, bass represent strength, determination, and virility.
 
The original drawing is acid-free, archival ink on 100 lb bristol paper (6" x 6" | 15 cm x 15 cm). Hand drawn in 2023 by Sarah Skiold-Hanlin.
