Male Bison Reproduction

"In the face of a storm, the only way is through."

This black and white, male bison was formed using a geometric foundation of vesica pisces using techniques like stippling, hatching, and detailed line work. As a symbol, bison represent abundance, freedom, strength, and stability, and it shows in their behavior. Where a herd of cows will run from a storm (to their exhaustion), bison will run through the storm, instinctively knowing it will pass quicker. Proving difficult, rather than domesticating them, Native Americans used fire to manage wild herds and, as a result, the lands.

The original drawing is acid-free, archival ink on 100 lb bristol paper (17" x 14" | 43 cm x 36 cm). Hand drawn in 2023 by Sarah Skiold-Hanlin.
