Roosevelt Elk Reproduction

This black and white drawing of Roosevelt Elk in a majestic mountain landscape was formed on a geometric foundation of vesica pisces and the golden ratio using techniques like stippling, hatching, and detailed line work. The Roosevelt Elk (aka Olympic Elk) is the largest of the four-remaining subspecies of elk in North America and the loudest of the deer species. During mating season, males make an interesting Bugle noise by whistling with their nostrils while grunting through their throat at the same time. Their antlers can grow up to an inch (2.5cm) a day and grow faster in sunlight. In some Native American tribes, elk are held in high esteem and considered a relative who brings endurance, patience, and strength. As a symbol, they represent these qualities as well as dignity, power, and inner strength.
 
The original drawing is acid-free, archival ink on 100 lb bristol paper (9" x 12" | 23 cm x 30 cm). Hand drawn in 2023 by Sarah Skiold-Hanlin.
