"guileless intuition"
 
This black and white, adolescent male white-tail deer portrait was formed on a geometric foundation of vesica pisces using techniques like stippling, hatching, and detailed line work. Antlers begin to grow around a year and a half and can grow up to a ½ inch (1 cm) per day depending on nutrition, genetics, stress, and age. During this time, the antlers are very sensitive so disputes among young bucks are settled like does, with them standing on their hind legs and kicking their front legs at each other. As a symbol, a buck represents leadership, regeneration, and stamina, while a fawn symbolizes innocence and purity of youth. In this transition, “guileless intuition” felt just right. 
 
The original drawing is acid-free, archival ink on 100 lb bristol paper (12" x 9" | 30 cm x 23 cm). Hand drawn in 2023 by Sarah Skiold-Hanlin.
